The Gisi Sampler includes 13 Solidarity-Songs written exclusively for this Record. We want to thank all the Bands and Artists who helped make this project a reality. The result is a diverse collection of songs. Some funny, some earnest, but all in the spirit of resistance. Gisi has been a squat in the center of Winterthur and a hub for subversive culture and radical leftist politics since 1997. In a self-understanding of autonomy and collective organization, Gisi has become an Oasis, a living and cultural room for concerts, workshops, food for all, and infamously wild parties.
The existence of the Gisi is by no means to be taken for granted. It is a product of years of resistance and hard work. Now there is a new threat on the horizon: The Gentrification lead on by the city administration will not halt before the Gisi, and as such, it is just a matter of time until the squat's existence is jeopardized, as developers try to turn the squat into lucrative real estate.
This sampler is a part of the resistance against this grim future. All Artists and bands on it are friends of the Squat. Their music, lyrical content and slogans are all in line with the principles of the Gisi.
This track is a painting afire depicting workaday drudgery here in Late Capitalism, originally released as a limited-time digital single for International Workers Day 2017, and now re-presented as a part of the Gisi Sampler, in solidarity with a squat/arts space/political network I strongly believe in, and have been fortunate enough to perform at many times, located in downtown Winterthur, Switzerland.
